2014 Adelaide Guitar Festival Orchestra

The 2014 Adelaide Guitar Festival Orchestra was a new Festival initiative in 2014 is the inaugural Adelaide Guitar Festival Orchestra (AGFO) which will see around 80 young guitarists performing together on the Festival Theatre stage. Guitar teachers from across the state have nominated students to participate in a series of rehearsal workshops under the inspiring direction of Dr Paul Svoboda, a guitar ensemble specialist based in Brisbane. Participants range from primary school-aged to university level, and come from as far as Loxton and Goolwa. Leading up to the festival, Slava Grigoryan will also work with students and ensembles in schools such as Fremont Elizabeth High School, The Heights School (Modbury), Charles Campbell College (Paradise) and Marryatville High School.

SONY DSCCongratulations to Year 10 student Sam Miller who debuted in the inaugural Adelaide Guitar Festival Orchestra on 20 July. Sam, who is taught at the College by Mrs Anne Todd, was selected by Brisbane’s acclaimed guitar ensemble specialist Paul Svoboda who visited schools across the state and hand-picked 50 of SA’s best young guitar players, to join the 75-strong guitar orchestra.

During the drought years in the mid-2000s, the Goolwa area was heavily effected by low water levels.  Anne put together a record with local group the Port Elliot Flyers to raise awareness for the ‘Fight for the Murray’ campaign.   You can enjoy the two versions of the song below.
